One reason I find drawing "famous" people very challenging is that anyone at all can find their photographs on the web and can compare them with what I draw to see if I have a likeness, or at least have captured their personality to some degree. This keeps me going back to the picture to look harder and try harder. It's one very good thing about putting these drawings on my website. I know that people will see them and judge them by comparison with what they know these people actually look like, or do in their photos, anyway. I don't want my drawing to look like a photograph, but an interpretation; however I don't want an interpretation that is for decorative effect, but rather one that takes into account the personality (or assumed personality) of the subject, as well as their interests, habits, and so on. I try to get into their heads and think as they think, as far as I can do that. I try to focus on those things that make the person unique, and to not take away from that. But of course it will take many years to be able to do this well.
