"Ghost Car" - 1936 Pontiac in Junkyard - Dec. 24, 2000

This drawing is based on a photo by P. J. Mones

This was the drawing that made me realize how much I enjoyed drawing junkyard cars. I love drawing them because they make you imagine a whole history for them, and you think about it all the time you're drawing, or thinking about drawing. There is evidence in everything about them that brings a former life, or lives, to mind. And they are beautiful, in a way that an old object with a patina, or an old twisted tree, or an old person before the age of Botox and plastic surgery is/was. If you're interested in reading more about my thoughts on junkyard art, see THIS PAGE.
