First book on this list: Added May 26, 2006 SUBJECT: DRAWING
The Practice & Science of Drawing Originally published by Seeley, Service and Co., Ltd., London in 1917, this book is now published by Dover Publications. You can find it at their website: http://www.doverpublications.com Then again, you might not mind a slightly-used copy of it for a lot less money. I saw it at half.ebay.com for as low as $5.09. Odd price, I know, and you have to pay for shipping, too, but you might want to compare the price with the price of a new book. Or, you can get the book for free on-line, via the Gutenberg project. It isn't as nice as having it in your hands so that you can take it anywhere with you, but it has all the illustrations (some are within the text area, and some are accessed by links you click on), and you can download it (or read it on-line) in different formats. Here it is in the HTML format (though when you first get to the page, you'll think it's all in text - Scroll down and you'll see it in nice print, and there are links to illustrations in the book): The Practice & Science of Drawing - A free E-book MY COMMENTS ON THIS BOOK A visitor to my site who has since become a friend of mine actually sent me the book. He knew it was chock-full of information and guidance for those who seriously want to learn to draw well and was confident that I would appreciate it and get a lot out of it, and I have found that it is indeed a treasure trove. I dive into this book anywhere and read a page, or a few pages, or a chapter, and if I haven't read it before, I take (copious) notes to help etch what I read into my mind. This is a book I take, along with a clipboard, paper, and pen, when I have to be somewhere away from home waiting (why don't they have waiting rooms for people who like it to be quiet, by the way?).
