Alphonse Gabriel Capone (Jan. 17, 1899 - Jan. 25, 1947), also known as Al Capone or just "Scarface." Gangster, murderer. Active in the 1920s and 30s. Believed to be responsible for the Valentine's Day Massacre. In spite of his ruthless, murderous, life of crime he was beloved by many people of low income because of his help to the needy (especially Italian-Americans) and also due to his making liquor available during the Prohibition. In these mug shots he looks baby-faced, prosperous, and friendly. Maybe he was all of those things, but he was also a ruthless murderer. In later mug shots he looked quite different - not more murderous but plain, homely, and broken down. I hadn't worked on this drawing since September, 2009. I actually started it over two years ago and work on it now and then. I've given up on this several times, but keep going back to it. As you can see, it's still in a very rough stage. |
