ABOVE ARE SOME OF THE "COLORFUL" CONTE CRAYONS

This list of Conte products suppliers is in order by country (except those in Europe are just under "EUROPE" in this list at this time). I do not know, in most cases at least, whether products can be shipped from one country to another. I stopped buying Conte crayons from Canada because the store I bought them from stopped shipping to the U.S., but I will be glad to add Canadian on-line art supply stores that sell Conte products to the list now, for people in Canada who are trying to find what they need. If you know of any other stores, anywhere in the world, where they sell Conte crayons, let me know (there is an email address at the bottom of most pages, or else you can mention it on the Conte Comments page).

1) OXFORD ART SUPPLIES & BOOKS PTY LTD.

Oxford Art Supplies has stores in Sydney, Darlinghurst and Chatswood (Australia)

About a third of the way down this page, at the left, is: Quick Find. Type in "Conte" (without the quotation marks), and hit the Enter button on your keyboard (or click on the tiny magnifying glass, if you can see it).

All the Conte products are on the first page you come to.

As of the time I'm typing this (on August 3, 2009), they have the follow Conte products for sale here:

This appears to be an assortment of colors, though it looks like there are two yellows in there, in the small picture they show.

Conte Blue Box Set of 24 Conte Crayons
$50.85 (Australian dollars)

This box appears to have a drawer below the first layer. This is also an assortment, though it looks to me like the bottom layer (in the drawer) are Conte sketching crayons, while those on top are the "colorful" kind of Conte crayons.

Conte Blue Box Set of 36 Conte Crayons
$76.30 (Australian dollars)

This box has two drawers below the top layer of Conte crayons. It looks like they're all the "colorful" type, but I can't say for sure as the picture is very small.

I don't see any other Conte products on this site.

2) THE ART SHOP

I think the Art Shop is in Australia. I can't find an address anywhere. They show $ for their prices, but I don't know if their $ are the same as U.S.$. Above the price list for Conte Crayon Sets there is a link to "International Prices," but when I click on that it takes me back to the same page.

They sell sets of Portrait, Landscape, and "Assorted" colors. The price for sets of 12 of any of these are $23.95. The price for sets of 24 is $47.50. The price for a set of 48 assorted colors is $94.75. They also have various sets of the Conte "sketching" crayons for sale by the dozen (a dozen of one color, and there is also a set of a dozen "assorted classics" for the same price, which is $23.95).

They also have Conte Soft Pastels at this store, sold individually and in sets.

4) MELBOURNE ETCHING SUPPLIES

They sell Conte crayons individually, in different colors ("Range of 50 colours including 14 Sketching Shades") for $1.87.

The prices I've listed at Melbourne Etching Supplies were found on their site on August 4, 2009.

On this page they show sets called "Blue Box Sets" of Conte Crayons. These apparently have assorted colors in them. The box of twelve crayons costs $15.99 and the box of twenty-four crayons costs $29.99.

On this page they have extra-large sizes of Conte sketching crayons (not many colors to choose from). Be sure to scroll down these pages to see prices.

They also have Conte Pastel Pencils, Conte Sketching Pencils, and Conte Compressed Charcoal on the Blick site.

This is a PDF file and so it is hard to see "as is." You must use the magnifier, if you can figure out how to do it. (Click on the tiny magnifying glass, then click on the page you want to enlarge -- as often as you need to so that you can read it.) Then you can read everything, including the prices.

On their page "20 of 113" (see this page number in opening at bottom), there are Conte crayons listed, both the sketching kind and the kind with all the colors.

There are 48 colors of the "colorful" kind. They are sold by dozens, it says, but it may be referring to the sets that you get where you can't choose the colors...I don't know. It does list the box sets separately (12 assorted portrait colors; 12 assorted landscape colors; 12 assorted classic colors; 12 assorted colors; 24 assorted colors; 48 assorted colors).

And they have the sketching Conte crayons (earth colors, grays, and white), which are sold in boxes of twelve or cards of two.

All of their Conte crayons are listed under HARD PASTELS, by the way.

There are eight Schleiper shops in Belgium. Their headquarters are in Brussels.

You can find the Conte Crayons on the Schleiper site by:

They list 84 hard pastels because this includes the sketching crayons (which we know are slightly different in composition) along with the 48 standard colors of Conté crayon available in most countries as well as the 22 colors that seem to be available only in Europe. Once you've selected "Hard" in the list of pastels, you will then have the choice of viewing the colors available for colored Conté crayons or the 14 types of sketching crayons.

This is another store that sells individual Conte crayons. A visitor to the site mentioned this place in July, 2009, so for now this is the most up-to-date listing on this page! (I hope to go through all the others again soon to verify that they still have the same products, and to see if the prices have changed.)

There are three pages showing the different colors of "Conté Colouring Crayons" that they sell. The page numbers are very tiny -- They are at the bottom of each page.

WHERE ELSE ARE CONTE CRAYONS SOLD IN THE U.S. AND CANADA?

It appears that the "colorful" kind of Conte Crayons are not being sold in nearly as many places as they used to be sold in the U.S. and Canada -- In fact, those listed above are the only places that I know of. Do you know anywhere else where the "colorful" kind of Conte Crayons can be bought? (The Conte sketching crayons -- earth colors plus black, white, and grays -- are more easily found.)
