CONTE CRAYONS WITH DIFFERENT NAMES ARE THEY ALL THE SAME PRODUCT?
This page is an addendum to the CONTE NAME CONFUSION page.
The main questions behind both of these pages is this: You may come into contact with one or more of the following names when you're looking for Conté crayons or Conté pencils. How are all these names related? What do any of them have to do with present-day Conté crayons (and Conté pencils, etc.)?
BIC
HUNT
ELMER'S
ALVIN

First. Hats off to Jean Vincent for her research concerning Conté Crayons. Jean has also done a terrific job in trying to make sense out of where Conté á Paris has gone. In a nut shell. Berwin Group acquired Elmer's, who appears to have acquired a large (almost all) portion of Conté á Paris. Elmer's merged with the office supply company, Hunt. It appears, because of Hunt's connections with office/stationary outlets, they appear to be controlling Conté á Paris. Alvin, whose involvement in art and drafting supplies is well known, is also a distributor for a great many art supplies, which may include Conte' a Paris. However, without inside info., it looks as tho Hunt is controlling Conté á Paris as a merged partner with Elmer's.
The BIC Company (Bich family of France owns 49%) acquired about the remaining 7% of Conté. .BIC retains use of the Conté name and script, which they use on a red pendant logo with a multi-colored tip for their BICKids 'Evolution' pencils. .How do you know which is which? .Products with the brand name, Conté á Paris are same as they have always been. Only the red pendant/Conte script is used by BIC. In other words. .It is business as always for Conté á Paris, the brand we have all used for years. .Whether HUNT or Elmer's will continue to offer artists a full line of Conté á Paris products, we can not say.
